Mike Pence Reacts to Donald Trump’s Landslide Election Win

Former Vice President Mike Pence reacted on Wednesday to his former boss’s landslide victory in the presidential election.
“The American people have spoken and Karen and I send our sincere congratulations to President-Elect Donald Trump and his family on his election as 47th President of the United States,” Pence wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We also send our congratulations to Vice President-Elect J.D. Vance and his family on his election as Vice President of the United States.”
Pence also congratulated Republicans for achieving crucial legislative victories that gave them a majority in the U.S. Senate. As of Wednesday, no party has yet cleared the 218-seat threshold that determines control of the House of Representatives.
“We will continue to pray for all those in authority and urge every American to join us in praying for our incoming President, Vice President and elected officials at every level,” Pence wrote. “God Bless America.”
Pence and Trump have had a tumultuous relationship since Trump left office, primarily related to Pence’s refusal to stop Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.
Tensions between the two men came to a head on January 6, 2021, when Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol and Trump refused to call off the rioters despite being told that Pence’s life was in danger.
Pence recounted the day in his memoir, So Help Me God.
“They had come to protest the result of the election and to prevent Congress from fulfilling its responsibility to open and count the Electoral College votes,” he wrote. “And, as I later learned, many had come looking for me.”
The Associated Press called the 2024 election for Trump early Wednesday morning after he won the battleground state of Wisconsin, giving him more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to return to the White House.
Vice President Kamala Harris called Trump on Wednesday to concede and delivered a concession speech later in the day.
The Trump campaign said in a statement that Trump acknowledged Harris’ “strength, professionalism, and tenacity throughout the campaign” and that the two candidates agreed on “the importance of unifying the country.”
This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.
